Cornelius Williams, master farmer and owner of Vandalia gardens Urban Farmers LLC, sought to provide an opportunity for “city folk” to experience a real farm environment through the growing of their own food and returning to the land as a part of healing body, mind, and spirit. So, Vandalia Gardens “brought the farm to the city” and Vandalia Gardens Urban Farmers became a reality.
Vandalia Gardens Urban Farmers LLC has grown into a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). As a CSA, its members have brought the flavor of the country to the city of Detroit, not only to give city dwellers an opportunity to share in freshly-grown produce as a CSA share member or by buying Vandalia Gardens’ locally-grown produce at farmers markets within the Detroit metro area, but to also provide an opportunity to participate in the hands-on experience of growing fresh produce along with a chance to reconnect with the land.
